Inspiring Growth, One Program at a Time

Young & Established offers a range of programs designed to meet the needs of our community’s youth, from food drives and free haircuts to cooking classes and educational workshops. By providing access to essentials like clean clothes through washer and dryer stations, nutritious meals, and empowering learning experiences, we are committed to creating an environment where children and young adults can thrive. Through initiatives like Y&Eats, our food truck, we not only feed hungry mouths but also foster skills and community engagement. These programs are driven by our belief that every child deserves the tools and support to reach their full potential.

Drives

Young & Established hosts weekly and yearly drives to provide essential items like clothing, food, hygiene products, and backpacks to families in need. These drives aim to support our community’s most vulnerable, ensuring children have the basics they need to feel confident and ready for school. By supplying nutritious food, clean clothes, and school supplies, we’re helping to remove barriers that can prevent kids from succeeding, empowering them to focus on learning and personal growth.

We serve 1,100+ people through weekly drives.

We ensure weekly access to clean clothing for 500+ people.

Washer & Dryer Program

One in five students struggle with accessing clean clothes, which can significantly impact their self-worth and success in school. Research shows that children without clean clothes are seven times more likely to drop out. Recognizing this, Young & Established equipped our community center and every school in Evansville with washers and dryers to meet this vital need. This initiative ensures that no student has to face the challenge of lacking clean clothes, offering a practical solution to help them thrive.

Monthly Haircuts

Haircuts play a crucial role in boosting children’s self-confidence, helping them feel polished and presentable as they face their peers each day. Understanding this need, Young & Established has partnered with The Dapper Man’s Parlor to launch a program offering free haircuts for students once a month. By bringing skilled barbers directly to each school, we aim to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their self-esteem and start each month with a fresh, confident outlook.

We create confidence, one haircut at a time.

We build foundations for lifelong wellness.

Cooking Classes

Young & Established has partnered with Ivy Tech Community College to teach local youth valuable life lessons through cooking classes. Led by Chef Stanley Trice, children practice basic math by counting, weighing, measuring, and tracking time, while also developing social skills through teamwork and communication in the kitchen. Additionally, this program provides a unique opportunity to educate youth on nutrition, helping them learn to plan meals and make healthy food choices, setting them up for a lifetime of well-being.

We fuel ambition through skill-building.

We nourish youth through hands-on learning.

Automotive Skills

Thanks to Full Throttle’s incredible partnership, Y&E’s automotive skills program offers students an invaluable opportunity to explore the world of mechanics and vehicle maintenance. Through hands-on lessons at Full Throttle’s shop, students learn about vehicle components, essential maintenance, and develop skills that spark confidence and curiosity in the automotive field. We’re deeply grateful to Full Throttle for helping us open doors to new interests and potential career paths for our youth.

We inspire life skills through automotive education.

Granddaddy's Garden Spot

Granddaddy’s Garden Spot is on its way, thanks to all our generous donors! We’re excited to begin cleaning up the property and preparing the perfect garden space. This initiative will increase access to local food, inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs, and help residents maintain a healthy lifestyle through agriculture and gardening. While still in the project stage, we hope to open soon and start making a positive impact in our community.

Y&E Campsite

Y&E’s Campsite is another exciting project that has recently received funding and is still in the early stages of development. It became clear that there was a need to provide our mentees with more opportunities to connect with nature. After a long search, Y&E found the perfect lakefront lot with a cabin to serve the needs of the Mentorship Program. While funding has been secured to purchase the property, we now turn our attention to renovating the cabin and surrounding grounds to create an ideal space for outdoor learning and growth.

We inspire youth to discover and connect with nature.

THE BACKSTORY

Turning Waste into Hope: The Start of Y&E's Food Drive

Courtney Johnson noticed something troubling at his local Walmart—perfectly good food was being thrown away simply because there wasn’t enough room for it. Determined to make a change, he spent six weeks persistently asking why this food was going to waste and how it could be put to better use. Through his unwavering dedication, Courtney finally convinced Walmart to allow him to give the surplus food back to the community instead. Since then, with the help of Y&E’s incredible volunteers, this weekly food drive has served over 30,000 people, turning what was once waste into a vital resource for those in need.
